Lesson 3: Design of Experiments: Establishing Experimental Reproducibility.
Mukul Mehta, Cleveland, Ohio
OK, now you know how to “define the Problem clearly.” Now, we will discuss how to Establish Experimental Reproducibility.
In the last lesson, I said: ”If you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you there.”
This implies we need to know the destination, goals and objectives of any improvement effort.
Equally important is to know the starting point. Where am I?
When we establish experimental reproducibility, we are clearly identifying our starting point.
Quite simply, if you running experiments in the lab, it means running 6-12 experiments, measuring performance and reporting average and standard deviation.
It is really simple.
But quite often brainy scientists take short cuts and skip that step.
And that can be expensive.
Here is a real case study from my work experience about 25 years ago.
